Freshman Class

This song is old as fuck, but I only found it like 3.5 days ago so go make a turkey sandwich and come back later if you don't want to read about it.
We talk a lot about Asher Roth on this blog, mostly because he's white and we're contractually obligated to devote at least 10 percent of our content to white people. Well here's a nice mixtape track that came out mad long ago last fall with our boy Ash and fellow 09ers Charles Hamilton and B.o.B.

This beat goes hard and the Sam Cooke sample is bomb. Charles's verse is nice, and B.o.B. is hot (and even hypes blogs!!!!), but this show really belongs to my boy Asher. His verse showcases his dexterity and wordplay, especially lines like "We've been pompous ever since Columbus couldn't work a compass." Shit is fire. I also like Asher because he's actually able to say some socially conscious and profound things in his raps, but he can also keep it grizzly when he has to.
It's exciting that the next generation of rappers seems to give a shit about the earth and shit that happens on it. Like I said yesterday, culture is cyclical, and we're starting to get back to socially conscious rap hitting the mainstream (hopefully).
